Chris Kelley is Phillips County's new Veteran's Service Officer. Kelley took over his new role with the County on Nov. 1 as an appointment made by the Phillips County Commissioners. Kelley grew up in Central, Nebraska and moved to Haxtun with his family when his wife, Holly, took a position with Haxtun Schools as the Family Consumer Science Teacher. The Haxtun Police Department re-registered a sex offender living within Haxtun's city limits. Steven Michael Saign lives in the 200 block of North Wallace Avenue. The Bulldogs put up a dominating performance against Sanford in quarterfinals action on Saturday with a 46-point win that advances the team to the semifinals round of 8-man playoff action. A 2-1 showing at the 1A State Volleyball Tournament last week has brought the Fleming Lady Wildcats' season to a close. After wins in the second and third rounds and a semifinal loss the Lady Wildcats sit among the top four teams in 1A. 85 Years Ago Nov. 22, 1939 A fire Friday morning at the Ivan Hodge farm south of Fleming destroyed the house and almost all the furnishings and clothing of the family. An overheated stove was believed to have been the cause of the blaze. Mrs. Hodge had carried all of the clothing out in baskets, but this was not removed far enough from the house and caught fire and burned.
